What is a concierge?
The term Concierge evolved from the French “Comte Des Cierge” (The Keeper of the Candles). This person tended to visiting nobles in castles of the medieval era. The hotel concierge first appeared in the finest hotels of Switzerland and France, thus carrying on the traditions of impeccable guest service begun in royal households.
The modern concept of independent personal concierge service is less than 20 year old and started with a few brave pioneers who took the hotel concierge idea and decided to offer it to the corporate world. But the most simple definition of a concierge is a personal assistant. Today, as in the past, the concierge plays a very important role in a clients’ experience, serving as an example of guest service excellence.
